Lieutenant Robert Smith - Unit Supervisor

The Patrol Services unit has a Lieutenant, ten Sergeants and 45 Patrol Officers.  These members are responsible for providing police protection and public safety services 24 hours a day.  They respond to all types of police emergencies as well as fire and ambulance emergencies.  Each shift has  a Sergeant that servers as the "shift commander" and anywhere from 6 to 12 officers.

There are three stations where police operations are conducted.  The main station is located on the Municipal Center campus.  The Warrensburg station is located at the Warren County DPW complex.  The Chestertown station is located at the NYS Police complex on Route 9.  Both the Queensbury and Chestertown stations are equipped for processing arrest using electronic fingerprints.  Real-time communication between the stations is accomplished via fiber-optic cables.

This unit operates around the clock and patrols the county divided by zones:

Zone 1 - Town of Queensbury
Zone 2 - Town of Lake George and Lake Luzerne
Zone 3 - Town of Warrensburg and Bolton Landing
Zone 4 - Towns of Stony Creek, Thurman and Johnsburg
Zone 5 - Town of Chester Horicon and Hague

ATV Unit
This unit specializes in providing motorized services where conventional patrol vehicles are not feasible or practical.  This unit is available to all local fire and EMS agencies to provide transportation to off-road incidents.

Communications Center
This unit is the primary Public Service Answering Point (PSAP) for all land-line and cellular 911 calls in Warren County.  Communication Officers are responsible for the dispatching of 25 fire departments, 13 emergency squads and 1 police department covering 11 towns, 1 village and 1 city.  They also dispatch for the Lake George Park Commission during the boating season, monitor State Police units operating within the county and fire and EMS units outside the county during mutual aid calls.  Currently there is 1 Supervisor, 2 Senior Dispatchers and 18 Communication Officers.  All officers are required to pass a civil service exam and pass a 16-week on-the-job training course.  Enhanced 911 allows determination of the subscribers name and address from which the call was made, even in cases of no voice contact.          Communications Handbook

Community Services
This unit specializes in providing services related to interaction with communities served by the Sheriff's Office.  Community service programs are provided to the general public, civic groups and interested parties.  The officers of this unit are specifically trained in crime prevention techniques and is available to conduct security surveys for local business and property owners.

Marine Unit
This unit specializes in providing services on the numerous bodies of water in Warren County.  It is responsible for the enforcement of NYS Navigation Law as well as local laws and ordinances pertaining to the use of waterways.  Enforcement of boating while intoxicated is a priority function.

Motorcycle Unit
This unit operates two motorcycles that were provided by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee and complements road patrol services, especially during events with traffic congestion.          Motorcycle Brochure

Narcotics Enforcement Unit
This unit specializes in investigating all forms of illegal drug activity in Warren County.

School Officer Unit
This unit represents the Sheriff's Office in all school districts located within Warren County.  These officers are specifically trained to interact with the school community, parents, faculty and staff.  With the exception of the Glens Falls city schools, there is an officer assigned to every school district.

SCUBA Unit
This unit specializes in underwater searches and recovery.  Divers are trained to the level of Master SCUBA Diver and hold certificates for Ice, Deep, Night, Rescue and Search and Recovery.  This unit belongs to a regional group of five county Sheriff's organizations that pool resources, equipment and manpower.

Snowmobile Unit
This unit specializes in providing motorized services where conventional patrol vehicles are not feasible during the winter months including patrolling of the Warren County Snowmobile Trail System.  Each member has attended the NYS Parks and Recreation Snowmobile Enforcement training program. 

Traffic Safety Unit
This unit specializes in providing services related to traffic enforcement, safety, engineering and education.  Members of this unit routinely investigate motor vehicle accidents involving serious personal injury or fatality.
